The company has a site and still does not show up on Google

"We have a site and we do not show up." I hear this in Ponta Delgada and from mainland companies that work for the Azores. Being online and showing up when someone searches for the service are two different things. Google shows pages that say what the company does and where. If the site does not say it, Google shows someone else.

These are the causes I fix first. None of them is a trick.

1. The home page talks about everything except the service

"Solutions", "innovation", "personalised support". Someone searching "electrician Ribeira Grande" or "website design in the Azores" needs to see those words in the title and on the first screen, written the way a person would say them. If the page title is only the company name, you are only competing for the brand. People who do not know the brand yet do not search for it.

2. It is all on the same page

One paragraph per service, in the middle of the home page, gives the reader little and gives Google little either. If there are three services, there are three pages: what is included, the area, how to ask. On my own site those are separate pages for the website, the landing page, and automations. The same principle fits a clinic or a workshop.

3. The address on the site and the Google listing do not match

Name, phone, address, and hours have to be the same on the site and on the Google Business Profile. A listing with no recent photos, or the wrong category, loses to the neighbour who spent an afternoon on it. Repeating "Azores" twenty times in the text does not replace the listing. A natural mention of the island or the parish, in the place where it belongs, is enough.

4. The site is slow, or Google cannot read the pages

Heavy pages, the same title on every page, a menu that only appears after JavaScript loads. On sites with Portuguese and English, each language needs its own address and a pointer to the other. On its own, none of these "guarantees first place". Together, they make Google misread the site.

5. Nothing outside the site confirms the company exists

Google reviews, a mention on a supplier's site, an article that answers a real question ("how long does a landing page take"). A new site, with none of this, takes time to show up even with the right text. Reviews are the step the owner can take this week, without waiting for the developer.

The order I work in

  1. The title and the first screen say the service and the area.
  2. Each service gets its own page, if it does not have one yet.
  3. Titles, descriptions, and links between pages.
  4. The Google Business Profile lined up with the site.
  5. One page or one article that answers a question customers already ask by phone.

If the base is slow, stuck in a builder nobody can edit, or has no way to split pages, a new site saves months of patches. If the structure holds, maintenance is enough for titles, speed, and the missing pages.

I wrote separately about when to rebuild and when to maintain.
